Power Electronic Devices#
The beginning mentions that this part relates to power electronic devices, divided into:
Main circuit => The circuit that directly undertakes the task of converting or controlling electrical energy.
Power electronic devices => Electrical devices that realize the conversion or control of electrical energy.

Conduction Loss - Cut-off Loss - Switching Loss
Conduction loss is the main reason for power loss in devices;
when the switching frequency is high, switching loss becomes the main reason;
Classification of Power Electronic Devices#
-
Classified by the degree of control over the device
Semi-controlled devices can be controlled to conduct through a control signal but cannot be controlled to turn off. For example, thyristors.
Fully controlled devices can control both their conduction and cut-off. These are self-turn-off devices. -
Uncontrolled devices
Power Diode, which has only two terminals and cannot be controlled by a control signal to turn on or off, does not require a driving circuit^[externally voltage-driven], and the conduction and cut-off of the device are entirely determined by the voltage and current it bears in the main circuit.
